SHIRLEY WOOD

Shirley completed an education degree, majoring in Art, from the University of Regina. It was there that she met her future husband Rod. Plein air painting dates in the Qu’appelle Valley led to a lifelong relationship with art and each other. Today Shirley is represented at the Handwave Gallery and is a member of the Art Gallery of Regina. Shirley enjoys having Rod print one of his images onto cotton fabric.  The image is then worked up with freehand machine embroidery.

Shirley says “I love watching peoples’ reaction when they first see my work. They glance at it from a distance and upon realizing it is embroidery, move in to marvel at the detail; some putting glasses on, others taking them off.”

A frequent comment is “it gives the work a 3-D quality.”
